UV Bonding
Furniture handles and glass bonding plates for UV bonding to glass
Bonding glass and furniture fittings made of stainless steel fine finish has always been a very attractive and discreet method that has many advantages: firstly, bonding furniture handles and furniture knobs to glass with UV adhesive is a quick and clean method, and secondly, it is an economical process. Another advantage is that the adhesive appears transparent after curing and is very resilient.
What is UV bonding and where is it used?
Materials such as glass and glass or metal and glass can be permanently bonded together using light-curing UV adhesive. UV adhesive is highly transparent so that no residue is visible after bonding. The very low-viscosity adhesive is cured with the help of special UV light, creating a very stable glass bond that can withstand high loads.
UV bonding of glass and metal elements mainly plays a role in glass furniture construction, where, for example, glass furniture tables are bonded to stainless steel glass bonding plates or furniture legs are bonded to glass plates.
Our selection ranges from square and round glass bonding plates for table columns, furniture handles and knobs, spacers to furniture feet. Choose from this range for your projects or we can develop and manufacture your ideas for UV bonding.
Notes on pre-treatment of the bonding surfaces and processing
Glass bonding should be carried out by specialist companies with the appropriate experience and equipment. As UV bonding is permanent and subsequent removal is almost impossible, you should observe a few points before attaching the metal to the glass:
- Clean the surfaces to be bonded thoroughly - they must be free of grease, clean and dry. We recommend using a special cleaner for glass bonding; standard glass and household cleaners are unsuitable in most cases. The cleaner must not leave any residue or form any separating layers on the bonding surface.
- The right UV adhesive will help you achieve the right results. For the material combination of glass and metal, you should use medium-viscosity adhesives.
- Use a suitable UV lamp for curing. This should be at least as long as the bonding edge to avoid tension due to uneven exposure. Position it as close as possible to the bonding surface and do not move the workpieces under any circumstances. You can use fixing aids as an aid.
Recommendations
- We recommend checking the individual parts for accuracy of fit before applying the adhesive. It is best to assemble your entire construction once with the help of fixing aids before applying the adhesive and check all dimensions and edges.
- Heat the gluing points before applying the adhesive. However, make sure that there are no more than 5 minutes between heating and applying the adhesive. Otherwise, repeat this process.
- It is best to apply the adhesive in a horizontal position. This ensures that the furniture fitting sinks evenly and bubble-free onto the glass. The weight of the fitting distributes the adhesive evenly over the entire surface to be bonded
